I recently caught up with former
World Boxing Council light heavyweight champions, Dwight Qawi and Matthew Saad Muhammad. When asked their opinions
on the WBC staying in business they said they were happy to hear it. The former archenemies both agreed that because
of their WBC belts they were able to command generous paydays and live the life of a champion. Qawi also stated “WBC
president, Jose Sulaiman was always a fair and just man. He was always professional and never pretentious.” Saad
Muhammad added, “ I have nothing but fond memories of the WBC. I was even inducted into their hall of fame for my
eight successful title defenses.”
