Forbes vs. Quinonez set for Friday

Press Release -- LOS ANGELES, September 27 – World class boxing returns to the Trump 29 Casino in Coachella, California on Friday, October 1, when Goossen Tutor Promotions in assoication with Sycuan Ringside Promotions presents an intriguing mix of former world champions, rising stars, and solid contenders battling it out for the right to move to the next level of the always-changing fight game. In the main event, a ten round super lightweight bout with a lot at stake for both fighters, former IBF super featherweight champion Steve Forbes (24-3, 7 KOs) squares off against “The Mongoose”, Palm Springs’ own Steve Quinonez (30-8-1, 11 KOs).

Doors open at 6:00pm (PT), and the first bell rings at 6:30pm (PT).  The card is being taped and will be aired on FOX Sports Net on Sunday, October 3 at 7:00pm.

Forbes, one of the fight game’s superior technicians, is looking to get back on track after two hard-fought decision losses to world champions Yodsanan Nanthachai and Carlos Hernandez.  And if anyone can do it, it’s the resilient Forbes, a 27-year-old resident of Las Vegas.

Nonetheless, he will have his hands full with Quinonez, a hard-nosed warrior who always comes to fight, making his bout with Forbes an intriguing mix of styles. “The Mongoose” is also a former NABF lightweight champion who has fought the likes of Micky Ward, Jose Luis Castillo, and Diego Corrales.

The October 1 undercard is just as compelling, highlighted by an eight round heavyweight clash between two of the division’s rising stars – former National Golden Gloves champion Malcolm Tann (12-1, 6 KOs) of San Antonio, TX and unbeaten Jason Gavern (6-0-1, 4 KOs) of Scranton, PA.  In fact, some boxing insiders wouldn’t be surprised if these two meet again one day with a world title on the line. Also in action will be Antonio Diaz (39-5-1, 28 KOs) and former cruiserweight champion Orlin Norris (56-8, 29 KOs), who will compete against opponents to be announced. Malcolm Tann and Jason Gavern will air on FOX Sports Net on Sunday, October 10 at 7:00pm.

Rounding out this outstanding night of action will be two unbeaten prospects with bright futures – Coachella junior featherweight Rudy Dominguez (10-0-1, 2 KOs) and Accra, Ghana junior welterweight James Armah (13-0, 6 KOs) – both of whom will battle opponents to be determined.

Tickets for the event are $100 (ringside), $75, $50 and $40 and are available now at the Spotlight Showroom box office, by phone at (866) TRUMP29 or at any Ticketmaster location.
