Floyd Schofield, the 22 year-old undefeated lightweight, is ready to step in and challenge WBC champion Shakur Stevenson, even though his own promoter has doubts that Schofield is ready for such a big step up in competition. Stevenson was set to fight William Zepeda, but Zepeda got injured, so Stevenson needs a dance partner. Schofield said on social media, "It is on Shakur Stevenson… You can’t run from this. 'And the new'… We accept the challenge. This is a message from [my promoter], Oscar De La Hoya. He told my father, 'My man, I seriously believe in your son so much and have love for him, but he’s 22 and I know how to make a champ for the next 15 years. Do not run the risk of getting beat because he had no experience. But if you’re telling me make it happen, then I will. Happy Thanksgiving and have a blessed day.'"
Schofield added, "Muhammad Ali was 22 years old when he defeated Sonny Liston in their 1964 world heavyweight championship boxing match... This victory marked the beginning of Ali's legendary career in boxing, where he would later be known as one of the greatest boxers of all time. And everyone said Ali had no chance… history will repeat."
