Floyd Mayweather Sr.: I asked him for a certain amount and that is the end of it. If they want to get someone else, that s more than fine with me

RC: So since I spoke to you earlier on, Oscar has agreed to keep you in his corner but doesn’t want to pay you the $2 million you requested, is that correct?
FMSR: That is very correct, Richard Shafer was on the phone and we talked and they are talking about they want to give me a half of million, and if Oscar doesn’t win, they want to keep the other half of million. So it is a million all together.  So basically what they are trying to do is… well like I told them before, you cant make nobody do **explicit**, the only thing I can do is show him and teach him and it is up to him to do it in the fight. They are trying to flip it on me like I am a prophet in the game or something like that. He just has to do what I tell him to do, if he do what I tell him he will be all right but like I told him I cant do it for that ($1 Million). Like I told the man you got the person.

RC: Okay Big Floyd, so what…
FMSR: (Cutting in) They called me…

RC: Who called you?
FMSR: Oscar’s people, Richard Shafer called me today, but I am not agreeing to none of that stuff they are talking about. They said before that money wasn’t no issue, but that’s what the issue is. Money, and like I told Richard Schaefer as much as they are getting man, they wont leave me out in the cold. I am in the cold anyway so you can’t leave me in the cold.

RC: How did they react to you not accepting that offer?
FMSR: Well he called me back, Richard Schaefer called me back, and he thought he was telling me something good, basically I thought he was saying something. The whole deal is this I asked him for a certain amount and that is the end of it. If they want to get someone else that s more than fine with me, I am not going to do it for nothing. A million dollars aint that much money, this is 2007.  A million dollars aint that much money anymore anyway. I am not saying that it aint good money, but it aint that much money that I am trying to chase it.

RC: Many might say well, where are you going to make that kind of money, and your thing will be that you are fighting your son, and that you are asking for this outrageous amount because Floyd is your son, is that correct?
FMSR: Well when you say outrageous, it is not outrageous I am fighting my son.

RC: I think it is warranted, but when I say outrageous I mean that it is a lot in comparison…I do feel it is warranted seeing as how Oscar will be making a WHOLE LOT of money, and it is your son. So considering the circumstance, I do agree.
FMSR: if he would have told me $250,000 or $300,000 and was making all of that money, it wouldn’t have made a difference to me for another fight. That money would have been all right. This money ($500,000 guaranteed, and another $500,000 if Oscar wins) is not all right, not for Floyd, this money is not all right, not at all.

RC: So if Oscar doesn’t budge on his offer you will not be in his corner come May 5th?.
FMSR: You got that exactly right… Sir.

RC: So in the second phone call from Richard Schaefer, nothing was accomplished correct?
FMSR: he tried to get Oscar, I told him to have Oscar call me and he…. Look here man I am not questioning nobody’s money but my own money. But for a man to make this kind of money and think he is going to leave me out there hanging wet, it wont happen.

RC: So exactly what took place the second time he called you back?
FMSR: He (Richard Shafer) called said that Oscar said that was too much, and I said guess what? Well if it is too much brother, guess what? I wish him luck.

RC: Was this deal that they proposed to you….
FMSR: (Cutting in) This deal that they proposed to me wasn’t **explicit**.

RC: I understand that, but with the deal was this for you to work his corner as the sole trainer? The reason why I ask is because they had been rumors of him possibly brining in another trainer for a second eye, was this deal based on him bringing someone else in?
FMSR: Well what do you mean a second set of eyes?

RC: Well there has been talks that….
FMSR: (Cutting in again) let me tell you something, the real deal is obvious, out of all the trainers he has had in his life, he let them go, its not that he has to let me go, it is just the situation of who it is that he is fighting. Like I said man, when you talk about me fighting my son man, let me tell you something he is going to be my son until he dies. I am not saying that it is a major thing because this aint nothing but a sport. So like I said, at the end of the day when it comes to mine, you better step up, not down but step up.

RC: Give us your thoughts on the possibility of Oscar picking another trainer, possibly Ignacio Bernstein, Freddie Roach or Jack Mosley?
FMSR: Who Freddie the Joke Coach Roach?

RC: (Start to laugh as I am smelling a little Mayweather Sr. poetry about to come on)
FMSR: Coach Roach who wouldn’t dare to approach.

RC: what about Bernstein who trains the Marquez Brothers or Jack Mosley who is of course Shane Mosley’s father?
FMSR: We aren’t going to get on him, he made some statement (On Boxingtalk.com) about me training against my son, but he is just trying to jump on the bandwagon. He said that more than likely I will not be training Oscar. If I wanted to train Oscar I would train him. And I would train him, I am not saying that I wouldn’t train him, if he got the right figures in front of me it will work. But at this point and time right now it aint in the equation brother.

RC: So in other words unless Oscar gives you nothing but $2 million, there is absolutely no compromising on this one?
FMSR: Ooh well there is always some compromising that can be done. But like I said, the compromise has got to be where I will feel comfortable with it.

RC: How about if Oscar said, “I will guarantee you a million, and if I win I will give you the second million”?
FMSR: Hell no… He can give me a million and half, then we will go.

RC: A million and a half guaranteed and then another half a million if he wins?
FMSR: That’s right, because I will expect to win; I am going to give him the knowledge and the things he needs to win. I can go along with that, but I can’t go along with a man going with a half of million and then going to take another half? He aint gave me **explicit**. For a fight like this he aint gave me nothing.

RC: Can you give us an idea as to what this money is like in comparison to what you made in your other fights working with Oscar?
FMSR: It’s much more, but you know I never got 10% of Oscar’s money.

RC: That’s understandable as most trainers that work with fighters of De La Hoya’s stature don’t get that the standard10% cut, they normally give out a flat fee which is still normally handsome.
FMSR: The money was still good, the money was good. I am not taking nothing from Oscar in no kind of way. Oscar made me a wealthy man, but this is a whole new ball game. He has to understand and everybody has to understand that whatever the case may be, I would do it, but at the end of the day that is still my son. I have to live with that until the day I die and until the day he dies. He is still my son, I can’t go around that and he can’t either. I am not going to fight my son for nothing. And to me, what they offered to me, to fight my son is nothing.

RC: Well I guess everything else that I would ask you from here on would only be necessary if Oscar did decided to meet your financial needs and have you in his corner…
FMSR: One thing I don’t understand why Oscar aint choosing the greatest trainer in the world, that can create problems.

Why do you think do you think he called me back?

He knows what the deal is. Now Jack Mosley is talking about “I won two awards for trainer of the year” and I heard a few people talking about that. But let me tell you something, you can get all of the awards you want to get. You aint no Floyd Joy Mayweather Sr., now you can get all of the awards you wan to get. You can get the award for being the worse trainer when you come training with me. You will get that rap if you get up the gym with me, you will see what will happen. A man of  my age with hands flying that you cannot see… ah man come on.

I’m no diggity, I am not doubt, I will show Mr. Mosley what it is all about.

RC: So exactly what took place the second time he called you back?
FMSR: He (Richard Shafer) called said that Oscar said that was too much, and I said guess what? Well if it is too much brother, guess what? I wish him luck.
