Figueroa hands Augustus 30th loss

But Augustus clowns way out of draw

Francisco Figueroa W8 Emmnauel Augustus: Francisco "Gato" Figueroa earned a hard-fought split decision over Emannuel Augustus on the Madison Square Garden undercard. It was the most significant win of Figueroa's rising career, and his record improved to 20-2.  Augustus, no pushover despite his 37-30-6 record (if you need any confirmation of this, check out tapes of Augustus' losses to Micky Ward and Floyd Mayweather). Augusutus consistently came forward and gave Figueroa a tough fight. He also entertained the crowd with his "drunken sailor" routine in the fifth round, but it wasn't so funny when it turned out that had Augustus won that round on judge Frank Lombardi's card instead of clowning around, the bout would have been a draw.  Despite HBO's Harold Lederman declaring Augustus the winner, official scores were 77-75 (twice) favor of Figueroa and 77-75 for Augustus.
