Fight Promoter University returns

PRESS RELEASE: Unprecedented in its scope and far-reaching in its impact, Roy Englebrecht’s Fight Promoter University set the fight world upside down when it launched in February of 2006 with the intention of educating a new generation of individuals in the art of promoting a fight event.

Demand was so great for this knowledge that a second FPU was launched in August with a 15% increase in enrollment, the addition of the ever-growing sport of mixed martial arts to the curriculum, and a Who’s Who of the fight game – such as Jim Lampley, Emanuel Steward, Marc Ratner, Richard Schaefer, Ray Mancini, and Jackie Kallen, to name a few, agreeing to appear as guest speakers.

Now, Englebrecht, the founder of FPU and the promoter of the ‘Battle In The Ballroom’ series at the Irvine Marriott in Southern California – the longest running show in the sport’s history (entering it’s 23rd year in 2007) – is pleased to announce that Fight Promoter University will return for a third session in March, one that will be bigger, better, and more affordable than ever.

Increasing from three days to five days, FPU III will take place at the Irvine Marriott in Southern California from March 30th to April 3rd.  Following a newly added Gala Opening Night Dinner, students will have the opportunity to attend 17 different classroom sessions, the largest ever, with new sessions being offered in MMA Matchmaking, Working with Indian Casinos, and Learning from Rookie Promoters.  Already committed to appear as guest speakers for FPU III are Hall of Fame promoter and matchmaker Don Chargin, top fight attorney Steven Espinoza,  Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer, MMA matchmaker from No Limits Colin Oyama, former Miller Beer Hispanic marketing executive Loretta Lucero, and MMA executive and PRIDE FC Vice President Tori Altavilla. Others tentatively scheduled to speak include Michael Buffer, Dan Goossen, Patrick Ortiz, and Sherdog.com editor Jeff Sherwood.  Plus, new speakers are being added almost weekly.

But when the education in the classroom is done, that’s when the real work begins, as students will get the chance to work on not just one, but two distinct fight promotions, as Englebrecht as announced the first ever Boxing and MMA Doubleheader. On Sunday, April 1st it will be the premiere the ‘Battle in The Ballroom’s first MMA show, and Monday, April 2nd will feature the world-famous boxing version of ‘Battle in The Ballroom’.  Students will now learn how both MMA and boxing shows are set up and operated, and will also be assigned specific duties on the two fight nights, getting a true insider’s look and hands on experience into how a successful promotion is run.

And if that’s not enough good news for budding promoters, tuition for FPU III will not increase, remaining the same $1,995 as it was for FPU I and FPU II. And attendees will save money on hotel lodging, as the cost of a room will only be $124 a night, a savings of $54 over FPU II.  FPU III will also offer three discount programs, with Fight Promoter University alumni receiving a $500 discount off tuition, FPU will also continue their Team Discount of $500 off each student’s tuition if two people sign up as a team and current or former pro fighters will also be eligible for a Fighter Discount of $500 off tuition.

So if you’re interested in entering the exciting worlds of professional boxing or mixed martial arts as a promoter, there is no better time to join the 70 students from 27 states, Canada and Peru who have learned from the best in the business at Fight Promoter University.  In fact, previous FPU graduates are already promoting boxing or MMA shows in Oregon, Northern California, Indiana, Nevada, Southern California, and New Jersey.
