Fernando Zuniga wins in Cabazon, California

Ringside Report

Fernando Zuniga TKO4 Ernesto Zamora... Former middleweight contender Fernando Zuniga made it three straight wins on his comeback with a fourth-round stoppage of journeyman Ernesto Zamora Friday night at the Morongo Casino in Cabazon, California. The scheduled-for-eight light heavyweight bout headlined a six fight card put on by II Feather Promotions. Zuniga dominated the action throughout, countering the wide swinging Zamora when he came forward. The Ecuadorian also worked the body well, spearing Zamora’s belly with a stiff left jab.

It was a body shot that ended the contest in the fourth. During an exchange, Zuniga countered a Zamora right upstairs with a right to the midsection and Zamora fell to the canvas. Referee Pat Russell waved off the bout before reaching the count of ten.
Official time was 2:43. Zuniga improves to 26-8 with 20 KOs, Zamora is now 7-9 with 5 KOs.

Dominic Coca W6 Gilberto Luque... In the co-feature, Dominic Coca won a unanimous six round decision over Gilberto Luque in a featherweight bout. Coca improves to 8-2 with 2 KOs, Luque is now 4-3 with 2 KOs.

Michael Franco TKO3 Baladin Treviso... Unbeaten bantamweight prospect Michael Franco upped his record to 7-0 with 6 KOs
with an impressive third round stoppage of Baladin Trevizo. Franco boxed well early before turning up the heat in round three, flooring Trevizo twice. Referee Pat Russell called a halt to the bout after the second knockdown.. Trevizo is now 3-2-2 with 2 KOs.

Gabriel Cruz W4 Francisco Rubio... Gabriel Cruz made a successful pro debut with a shutout decision win over Francisco Rubio in a junior lightweight four rounder. Rubio is now 0-5-1.

Khadalphi Proctor W4 Anthony Ramos... Khadalphi Proctor won a hard fought four-round unanimous decision over Anthony Ramos.  Much of the junior welterweight bout was fought tactically, with Ramos looking to catch Khadalphi as Proctor tried to close the distance behind side-to-side head movement. Proctor landed the more effective shots in the last two rounds to seal the win. Scores were 40-36 twice and 39-37.

Sammy Yniquez W4 Eddie Leal... In the opener, Sammy Yniquez won a four-round unanimous decision over Eddie Leal in a match-up of debuting bantamweights. Yniquez was able to catch the shorter Leal with quick counter hooks throughout the bout and scored the bouts only knockdown in the second.  Official scores were 40-35 twice and 39-36.

Former junior featherweight champion Israel Vazquez was in the house to take in the action, as was Italian champion Sven Paris. The ring announcer was Joe “Are you Ready” Martinez. II Feathers Promotions will return to the Morongo Casino on July 13.
