Felix Alvarado retains IBF 108-pound title

Felix Alvarado W12 Reiya Konishi ... The IBF light flyweight championship remains around the waist of Nicaragua's Felix Alvarado, who went to Kobe, Japan and defeated Reiya Konishi by unanimous decision. The first half of the fight was close, but Alvarado swept rounds eight through eleven on all three official scorecard to clinch the win. Alvarado is now 35-2. He claimed the vacant title last year against Randy Petalcorin. Konishi was fighting in his hometown, but fell to 17-2. Konichi's previous loss was to Carlos "Triple C" Canizales last year. Konichi conceded defeat afterwards, teling the Kyodo news agency, “He absolutely overwhelmed me. He was tougher than I thought he would be, and I was never able to seize the moment and turn things my way. I’m still some way from being good enough to take on the world.” source: japan times / kyodo
