"On February 9th, expect to see an impressive view of a heavyweight that you haven’t seen for a while."
BoxingTalk: Eddie, you have a fight coming up on February 9th in New York. How is preparation going for that fight?Eddie Chambers: It’s going well. I’m training really hard to get myself ready as if it were a 12-round fight.
BoxingTalk: What do you know about your opponent, Derrick Rossy?Eddie Chambers: I heard he’s pretty good. He came in at 250 in his last fight, and I hear he’s a pretty tough guy. A big, strong, football player type, so I have my work cut out for me, but I’ll be prepared.
BoxingTalk: Being the fact that Derrick Rossy is undefeated, will prepare any differently than your previous opponents?Eddie Chambers: First, I want to be able to fight hard. He’s probably a pressure fighter who will be in my face the whole time, so I need to make sure my legs are good. My preparation has been the same as when I prepare for all my other fights. I train hard for all my fights.
BoxingTalk: What do you feel a win against Rossy will do for your career?Eddie Chambers: This is a good test for me. I’m fighting a guy who is 15-0, who has fought some decent guys. Most of Rossy’s wins have been by knockout. So a victory against him will get me another fight or two within a title shot.
BoxingTalk: Do you feel you need to go out there and knock him out to prove that you are a true heavyweight contender?Eddie Chambers: Everybody wants to go out there and look impressive. As long as I win, and win impressively, that is how people will view me.
BoxingTalk: You recently signed with Goossen Tutor Promotions. What will this new partnership do to improve the heavyweight division?Eddie Chambers: With myself, Goossen Tutor, and Score Promotions, we are putting my career where it’s never been. I’m now able to be seen. People are able to see who I am, and not just say, “Oh, I’ve heard of this guy.” We only heard of Nikolai Valuev for a while. He was a big guy and the next big thing. That’s how it will be for me.
BoxingTalk: What can we expect from you on February 9th, and for 2007?Eddie Chambers: On February 9th, expect to see an impressive view of a heavyweight you haven’t seen for a while. I’ll be well prepared, and for the rest of ’07 I’ll look good each time out, stepping up my competition, so everyone can see a different heavyweight then the top four guys. Hopefully we can all step up for the heavyweight division.
