Fanmio has filed a lawsuit against boxer Ryan Garcia and Golden Boy Promotions that accuses them of fraudulent inducement, tortious interference, and other serious claims. The lawsuit arises from Fanmio's plans for Garcia to go to Japan and fight an exhibition against kickboxer Rukiya Anpo this past New Year’s Eve. Fanmio says Garcia received payment "and [with] the promotion being well underway, Fanmio was deceived into organizing an event in which Ryan never intended to participate. In addition, Golden Boy Promotions actively worked to sabotage the event." Fanmio alleges that it spent in excess of $1 million planning the fight, which never camer to fruition. Garcia was on suspension for using banned performance enhancing substances against Devin Haney last April, so Fanmio will have to show that Garcia would have been allowed to fight in Japan despite the suspension.
Fanmio has hired the law firm Shaw Lewenz to handle the lawsuit, which was filed in the Central District of California. Fanmio's press release states, "The justice system will take over, and Fanmio fully intends to recover damages. Doing bad business will never be tolerated."
