Mzonke Fana will be back in the ring again on December 9, 2005 in his beloved Khayelitsha, Cape Town, South Africa. Mzonke Fana, 22-3 with 8 KOs, will be facing Philippine Benjamin Sollano, 10-5 with 7 KOs, in what will be Fana's first fight since losing his world title challenge against legendary Marco Antonio Barerra in El Paso, Texas back in April. At the same time it will be a homecoming for Fana -- fondly dubbed " The Rose of Khayalitsha" who last fought in his own Khayelitsha backyard two years ago. Fana earned himself a shot at Barerra on May 28th, 2004, when he beat the then Randy Suico of the Philippines in Orlando, Soweto, a fight which later went on to win Boxing South Africa's "Fight of the Year" honours. "Fana is still very highly regarded internationally," said promoter Branco Milenkovic pointed out. Fana recently picked up the WBC's “Golden Glove Africa Award “ which was given on his behalf to the South African ambassador in Algiers.
