Carlos "Famoso" Hernandez showed incredible heart against Juan Carlos "Ranchero" Ramirez in Las Vegas Saturday. Hernandez bled profusely virtually for nine rounds after sustaining a deep cut during a clash of heads near the end of round one. Trailing early, Hernandez figured out Ramirez, knocked him down in the eighth and went on to notch an impressive come-from-behind victory. The cut was so bad, HBO announcers thought Hernandez should have quit on his stool after three and hope for a technical draw. But Hernandez had the last laugh by official scores of 96-93, 95-94 for Hernandez and 96-94 for Ramirez. Hernandez, an ex-junior lightweight world titlist, will be out of action for a while recuperating from the wound. --Scott Shaffer
