Famoso is Ready to Explode on The Flushing Flash

Hernandez to Kelley: Expect PAIN!!!

BoxingTalk:  Carlos, you were recently in San Antonio to announce your September 28th fight against Kevin Kelley.  How did that go for you?

Carlos Hernandez:  It was really nice.  The people were great.  San Antonio is a beautiful city, and I hope I come out winning so I can enjoy the city even more.

BoxingTalk:  The last time we spoke you were scheduled to face a much lesser opponent.  How did this fight with Kelley come about?

Carlos Hernandez:  I was suppose to fight on a different show on Telfutura, but then I was offered this fight on OLN, which will be called Versus TV a couple days before my fight.  I think it’s going to be a great fight, and a great opportunity to show what I have to a new audience.

BoxingTalk:  Between you and Kelley, the two of you have faced top level opponents like Erik Morales, Marco Antonio Barrera, and Floyd Mayweather Jr.  It would be safe to say that you are evenly matched with Kelley when it comes to your ring experience.  What do you feel is your biggest advantage in fighting Kelley?

Carlos Hernandez:  What I have a lot going for me coming into this fight is my desire and my heart.  He may have the same thing, but I know what I have, and that’s the hunger to win, and that’s what I’m going to take into this fight.

BoxingTalk:  I read a report recently in which you said you must destroy Kelley.  What did you mean by that?

Carlos Hernandez:  I need to beat him.  I need knock him out.  I plan to get a “W” either way, but those are just words and my actions speak louder than words.

BoxingTalk:  Even though you got the victory in your last fight against Sean Plessis, I  read reports that you were not motivated for that fight. What is motivating you now to take on Kevin Kelley?

Carlos Hernandez:  It wasn’t that I wasn’t motivated, because I trained well for that fight.  I just didn’t feel it…that fire to want to destroy.  I trained well but I didn’t perform the best that I could.  I’m going to change all that on the 28th against Kelley.

BoxingTalk:  Will the fire you have now be the motivation you need to defeat him?

Carlos Hernandez:  Most definitely.  It’s brought me this far and it won’t stop now.

BoxingTalk:  What do you feel a win against Kelley will do for your career?

Carlos Hernandez:  Some people may say that he is on his way down.  Maybe that’s true and maybe it’s not.  Either way, getting a “W” against Kelley would be great for my resume.  He’s been champion of the world, and has had some great fights.  Therefore, I am preparing for a great Kevin Kelley.    I want to beat him and then move on.

BoxingTalk:  What weight will this fight with Kelley be fought at?

Carlos Hernandez:  133.  We’re going to meet at 133 since he’s more of a natural featherweight and junior lightweight.

BoxingTalk:  You have mentioned before that you are ready to take on the top fighters in the lightweight division.  I know the newly crowned WBC Interim Titlist David Diaz is on your radar.  What have you heard from your promoter Top Rank or Diaz’ promoter on making that fight happen?

Carlos Hernandez:  I have to get through Kelley first, but I know that Diaz is on the radar for about twelve other fighters.  I would like to fight him since I’m the former champion and I have the name and style to make a great brawl on a great card.

BoxingTalk:  What can Kevin Kelley expect from Famoso on the 28th?

Carlos Hernandez:  To quote Mr. T in Rocky III…“PAIN!!!”
