Carlos Fajardo of Nicaragua told the Latin publication Primera Hora that he will be challenging Ivan Calderon (Boxingtalk’s #3 rated strawweight) on November 27, 2004. At stake will be the WBO 105-pound championship and the bout would likely be the chief support for Erik Morales-Marco Antonio Barrera III at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Fajardo, rated #11 by Boxingtalk, told Primera Hora he thinks he will defeat Calderon because “I am the type of boxer that can adapt my style to different boxers. If they can box, I will box. But if they want to trade punches, I can do the same.” The smooth Calderon is almost certain to box rather than slug. He has a 20-0 pro record but only four knockouts while Fajardo is 22-3-1 with 13 KOs.
