Exlusive Interview: James "Lights Out" Toney

GL: It's been too long since we've had you on Boxingtalk. What we can expect to see from you against Anthony Thompson on December 13th?

James Toney: Anthony Thompson is a good fighter and we're looking forward to a good fight. I just hope he keeps his word and does what he said he was going to do, which is come and fight me and not put his track shoes on."

GL: What did you think about his performance against Wladimir Klitschko?

JT: It is what it is. Dan lead him to the promised land and he couldn't get a drink.  I can't wait for December 13th to get here. We're going to be heavyweight champion of the world and by the end of next year I'm going to be undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. By the end of next year, I'm telling you right now the only way it won't happen is Dan Goossen doesn't do what he's supposed to do and get those Klitschkos to the table.

GL: At this stage of your career, is it a must that you defeat Thompson impressively?

JT: It's a must. I have to win impressively. If I don't win impressively then people are going to say I'm tired and through. I'm so motivated right now it's ridiculous. I can't wait.

GL: What did you think about the Samuel Peter fight with Vitali?

JT: The guy went out there and quit. He fought his ass off with me, but I ruined him in those fights. Klitschko made him scared when he was able to shut all his junk down.

GL: How do you feel about the Klitschko Brothers holding 3/4 of the titles?

JT: I don't feel nothing about it. It's the reporters who build them up and make people think they're the greatest thing since sliced cheese. To me their average fighters who are ready to go. I'm going to get all in their ass if they come to see me.

GL: How do you feel about Hasim Rahman getting a shot at Wladimir Klitschko [also on Dec. 13th] after his second fight with you?

JT: That's your boy and your boy got his shot because he cried and whined his way out of there with me. They chose Rahman over me and it is what it is.

GL: Do you expect Rahman to challenge Klitschko?

JT: Nope. He's going over there to get paid, I'd be going over there to whoop his ass and bring the title back. I'm ready man, I wish the fight was today.

GL: Did you see the Calzaghe-Jones fight?

JT: Yeah. Roy got scared, Roy got tired. Roy is worn out. Calzaghe is a good fighter, but he's not all that. Roy wasn't throwing punches because he didn't want to get knocked out.

GL: What weight do you have to come in at to be at your best for December 13th?

JT: It doesn't even matter. I will be at my best come December 13th. I will be coming out all guns blazing. He won't touch me.

GL: Closing thoughts?

JT: It's been great, thanks for the interview. Tune in on December 13th it's going to be a classic Lights-Out performance.
