BT - Verquan you step back into the ring against Leo Martinez on August 11th, ESPN Friday Night Fights, talk a little bit about this fight.VK - My opponent is a good fighter, he will be right there in front of me so I will have to box this guy. I need to use my jab, and I plan on using my lateral movement, that's what we have been working on in the gym. It should be a good fight.
BT - How's camp gone thus far Verquan ?VK - Camp has gone well, I moved up into weight class, I was at 126lbs, now I will fight at 135lbs. It's more easy for me at 135lb, I feel stronger here.
BT - Verquan are you at a more natural weight at 135lb ?VK - I am coming down from 145lbs and fighting at 126lbs, it was hard to make that weight. Now I can use my speed, and my strength at the same time.
BT - What do you know about your opponent, have you watched much film on him ?VK - Yes, definitely he will come right at me, and he throws nice combinations. He's got a little power too, but I will use my jab and my strength and I will be ok.
BT - This is on national TV Verquan, talk about the importance of an impressive win.VK - Exactly, it's on national T.V. and it's a big fight for me, and an opportunity to show everyone what I can do. I have only fought once or twice on National T.V. and I am hoping that there will be many more opportunities to come in the future.
BT - Where do you want to be a year from now Verquan?VK - Right now I am trying to better my game, maybe 5 more fights and I can position myself into a title shot. Maybe a year or a year and a half from now I will be able to get an HBO, or Showtime fight and a World Title.
BT - Anything you want to say to the boxing fans that will be watching you on ESPN, in closing ?VK - I want to thank the fans, tune in, it's going to be great show. Brian Minto will be on the same card, Monty Mesa Clay, and Edner Cherry will be on the card as well. Tune if fans, it's going to be a great show!
