Exclusive Interview: Shane Mosley

"Zab's going to get it!

GL: What's good Shane? Did you enjoy yourself at the hall of fame over the weekend? "Yeah, it was a good time. I went down there with with my wife and we spent a lot of time hanging out with some all time great fighters and future great fighters. Marvin Hagler was there, we talked with Aaron Pryor and Alexis Arguello. Juan Diaz and a couple of other young fighters were in town and we basically enjoyed ourselves and signed a lot of autographs."

GL: It's been a while since we've heard from you, what did you think of the Ricky Hatton-Kostya Tszyu?

Shane Mosley: "I thought it was good. There was a lot of wrestling going on and the fight was ugly but you have to tip your hat off to Ricky Hatton. But I don't think a younger Kostya Tszyu would have allowed Hatton to get inside like that. And I can't see a young Tszyu quitting either."

GL: I recently spoke with Floyd Mayweather Jr. and he says guys like you and Oscar are ducking and dodging him. He called you a couple of names and said you don't want to fight him. How do you respond to Mayweather's comments?

Shane Mosley: "It's always the same thing from Floyd. He likes to talk about me so much but he needs to prove himself. Who has he been fighting? He hasn't done anything at 140 and there's some tough guys out there for him to fight before he talks about fighting me. He's fighting at 140, so if he wants to fight me he should come on up to welterweight and beat somebody. Since Floyd and Zab love talking about me so much, I think they should fight each other before I fight any of them."

GL: Zab Judah is also definitely interested in fighting you, and unlike Mayweather, he's a proven welterweight. Is that a fight you're hoping to make soon.

Shane Mosley: "Like I've been telling you and everyone else, I came back to welterweight to fight all of the top guys. I'm going to get all of them one by one, but it's going to be when I want to fight them not when they want to fight me. Zab is going to get it, but it's going to happen when I want it to. I know what you say about fighting for the belts, but the belts don't me and I don't really care about the belts as much as I care about fighting the best out there. But like I said, I think Zab and Floyd should fight each other first. They're almost the same age, they both like to run their mouth and I think that's a fight a lot of fans want to see."

GL: Is there any update on your next fight?

Shane Mosley: "Not yet."

GL: I understand HBO is still unable to guarantee you a date and they pretty much have no idea when that will change. How do you feel about that and do you think it stems from your last fight taking place on ESPN?

Shane Mosley: "It's a little disappointing that they can't guarantee dates to the right fighters. After seeing some of the guys they've put on this year, I'm still scratching my head trying to figure it out."

GL: Maybe it has something to do with the fact that your last fight took place on ESPN.

Shane Mosley: "We were thinking that too, but we asked HBO about that and they said it had nothing to do with it. They said it had to do with money and date issues that they were dealing with."

GL: But of course, they'd find a date immediately if you decided to fight Margarito tomorrow.

Shane Mosley: (laughs) "No comment."
