Exclusive Interview: Owen Beck

Video Interview By G. Leon Transcribed By Jose "OnFire" Aguirre

Greg Leon: Boxingtalk.com with Undefeated heavyweight up and comer Own "What the Heck" Beck. Tell us what's good Owen.

Owen Beck:"You know, everything is good, like you said. Thank GOD and thanks Jesus Christ. If it weren't for him we wouldn't be here today doing this wonderful interview."

GL: You've been keeping yourself pretty busy. How important has it been for you to stay busy and how do you feel about staying so busy?

OB:"I just think it's really good to stay busy because when it comes the time for Owen to really step up to somebody it's going to be really good. At least I know staying busy I'll be sharp and I'll be ready."

GL: Tell the people out there who haven't seen you fight what kind of a fighter Owen Beck is. What's Owen Beck all about in the ring?

OB:"Owen Beck is all about excitement. Owen Beck is all about going in there and taking care of business. Good boxer puncher. I just bring it all to the table because I want the world and the people to really see what they're paying for and what is capable of happening in the ring."

GL: You're already highly by several of the sactioning organizations. Your promoted by Don King. Don King also promotes three of the heavyweight champions. Has there been any word or discussions as to when you might perhaps get a shot at one of them?

OB:"We haven't had any great discussion about one of the title holders yet but hopefully something will happen after this fight. I think I'll meet with him again after this fight and from there I'll basically take it from there and see what happens."

GL: Before you would ever get a title shot do you feel that it's important for you to get in there with somebody like Hasim Rahman or Fres Oquendo who the people are familiar with. Based on the fact that you haven't recieved great visibility on national television yet it's probably going to be important for you to fight somebody who people are familiar with. Do you feel that's the case?

OB:"Yea, I really think it's a good idea because at least from there on after knocking one of those guys out the world will say yes this is the man that's capable of doing the job that people want to see. I think that's a good idea. I'm just waiting to see what Don has planned for me after this fight."

GL: What are your thoughts on the heavyweight division is general as a whole?

OB:"It's just wide open for me right now. I've been saying I don't want one belt or two belts. I want all the belts. I want to become undisputed heavyweight champion of the world and that's my dream. To me there's no turning back. That's my aim and that's where I'm going. That's what I'm going for."

GL: How active do you plan on staying after this Saturday night? How many times can we expect to see you?

OB:"I just want to stay as active as possible. The more fights I have under my belt the better it is."

GL:"How would a fight between you and say, Hasim Rahman, who lives in Las Vegas and Fres Oquendo. How do you see those fights playing out?

OB:"I can see a good fight. I know Fres and we're pretty good friends and hopefully when he comes down to the end of the day it's all about business. It's just like with Chris and Lamon Brewster, we're all friends and when it comes down to the end of the day it's business. We got to go in there and do it. I'm looking forward for....

GL: BIG things.

OB:"BIG things, big things because that's what the world wants to see. Owen "What the Heck" Beck doing his thing. If it weren't for GOD himself I wouldn't be doing it. And as everybody can see and know I'm a christian."

GL: (shouting) Show them the shirt Owen. He don't got milk.

OB: (shows his Got Jesus? shirt) I got Jesus. I got Jesus and he blessed me. I'm truly blessed to be doing this. It's like my little song that I always sing, Oh Happy Day. You probably know the psalms. (starts singing) Oh happy days, when Jesus...
Ok I'm not going to.. You going to have to come to church an catch me live doing that."

GL: Where did you get the nick name What the Heck?

OB:"My brother came up with the name and it was a four to two vote so the four win and the two miss out. It was me and my other brother Dean that said , we were like no I don't like the name What the Heck but the four others were like this is the name, this is what rhymes and this is what the people want to see. A name that rhymes. I can't do nothing about it. The name is already there and it's even in the paper as one of the best nicknames in boxing. There's nothing I can do about it but stick with the name and go on."
