Exclusive Interview: Martin Castillo

JA: What are your thoughts about the fight getting postponed?

Martin Castillo: The fight has been cancelled but I don’t know if it’s still going to be on or not.

JA: Are you disappointed on the possibility of your fight not going to be on HBOPPV?

Martin Castillo: I’m still waiting for Top Rank to tell me when I’m going to next. I’m just going to wait till the end of tonight because that is when there suppose to tell me where my fight is going to be located at sooner or later.

JA: How was training going for this fight? Were you mentally ready to take that big leap onto HBOPPV?

Martin Castillo: I feel better prepared this time around than last time around. I’m mentally and physically more prepared for this fight.

JA: Your 28 now, do you feel that you are in your prime?

Martin Castillo: Every time I fight I work harder and harder to try to give the people what they want to see. I always try to give my best performance and you are going to see me better every time I step in the ring.

JA: Raul Marquez fought last Saturday night on Showtime; can I have your thoughts on that fight?

Martin Castillo: I didn’t really see the fight because of the training schedule that I was on. They invited me to see the fight but I wanted to stay back and stay focused for this fight coming up.

JA: Are you looking for a fight with Raul in the near future?

Martin Castillo: Hopefully I can still be champion at 115.  I want to try to move up but if he’s still at 115 I will be able to fight him. I’m just looking to make the better fights and better money.

JA: Do you plan on moving up in weight in 2006?

Martin Castillo: I have to talk to my manager about that. I feel comfortable at fighting at 115. The only thing that I would want to move up in weight for bigger money.

JA: Are you disappointed that you put all this hard work into this fight and now it gets postponed.

Martin Castillo: I feel very bad not only for my self but for all the other fighters that put a lot of work for this fight. I put all my time in and too be working hard and for them to cancel the fight I feel very bad, but it could happen to any fighter.

JA: Is there anything that you would like to say to your fans out there on Boxingtalk.com?

Martin Castillo: I just want to say to all my fans sorry that there is not going to be a fight. Don’t lose interest in the fight. Stay tuned for my next fight, I don’t know when it’s going to be but hopefully real soon.
