Exclusive Interview: Junior welterweight Danny Garcia

GL:  Congratulations on your victory on Saturday. I saw the highlights on HBO.  Give us some thoughts on your performance.  "I fought a guy who was well experienced, he was 27-12 [former 115-pound challenger Julio Gamboa, listed at 28-12-2 on boxrec], so I knew going in to use the jab coming out, to hit him a couple of hard shots and see how he takes them.  He took the shots pretty well, so I just out-boxed him for the 6 rounds?, but I give myself a D."

GL:  It's the first time someone did go the distance.  How do you feel about that?

Danny Garcia:  It feels better than knocking somebody out, to tell you the truth.  You get the experience to become better, so when I do fight somebody real tough, I already know how it feels to go the distance, so it felt good.

GL:  How do you assess your performance thus far, and where do you go from here?

DG:  I go back to the gym on Monday, getting ready for June 7th, I'll be fighting on the Kelley Pavlik undercard, in Atlantic City.  The plan is to get back in the gym, stay in shape, and get ready for the next one.

GL:  I'm sure you're pleased about the way you're moving, it's from the ring, to the gym, back to the ring.  How long do you expect things to move so fluidly?

DG:  By the end of this year, by the end of 2008, I expect to be 12-0, so I'd like to stay busy in the gym for the rest of the year, and hopefully the rest of next year.

GL:  What part of your game do you feel needs the most sharpening, and tightening up?

DG:  Dropping my hands, to basically use my jab, and not drop my hands as much.

GL:  Do you have any idea who you're fighting on June 7th?

DG:  Not yet, but soon I will.

GL:  Whoever it is will be in trouble?

DG:  That's big trouble.

GL:  Give me some closing thoughts.

DG:  I just want the fans to know, I'm a young hungry fighter from Philadelphia.  I'm strong and exciting, and hopefully, I want the fans and everyone out there to see who I am one day, and they will.
