Ex-champ Patrizio Oliva to be in Giacobbe Fragomeni's corner

Press Release: Giacobbe Fragomeni has come from Italy to England with victory in mind, intending to put an end to the world title dreams of British boxing’s glamour boy David Haye at the York Hall, this Friday, November 17, 2006. Fragomeni has now finished his training and is looking forward to repeating a 1999 amateur win over Haye, which prevented David from going to the 2000 Olympics. In Fragomeni’s corner will be former WBA light welterweight champion, Patrizio Oliva. "Having Patrizio in my corner is a huge benefit to me, I feel like I can take on anyone and working with Patrizio has helped me build up my 21 fight unbeaten record," said Fragomeni. "I know after the first four or five rounds, Haye will find the going tough, but my conditioning is good and my chin rock solid. Haye can't beat me." Oliva won the WBA title in 1986 from Ubaldo Sacco and made two nondescript defenses before losing the title to Juan Martin Coggi. In 1992, Oliva lost to Buddy McGirt and retired with an outstanding record of 57-2 but no real super fights in his career. Upon learning of Oliva being in his old amateur nemesis' corner, Haye was unimpressed. "I don't give a damn who's in his corner. I'm going to knock Fragomeni out," fumed the Londoner. "I beat him in the Olympic trials but was ripped off by the judges and I will make him pay this Friday; end of story." Maloney Promotions presents the WBC Final Eliminator between Haye and Fragomeni for the European cruiserweight championship at York Hall in London, England. Tickets are available at www.frankmaloney.com or by calling 0871 226 1508. Sky Sports televises live on SS1 starting at 22:00.
