Ex-champ Hideki Todaka retires

Hideki Todaka, a former world champion at 115 pounds, announced his retirement from boxing according to Japan Today.  Todaka, currently rated at #21 by Boxingtalk in the bantamweight division, has been unable to fully recover from eye problems.  He captured the WBA junior bantamweight title in 1999 by defeating Jesus Rojas. He made three successful defenses but was stopped by Leo Gamez late in 2000.  Todaka avenged the loss by defeating Gamez in 2003. He retires with a record of 21-4-1.  Boxingtalk wishes him a successful post-boxing career. --Scott Shaffer
