Press Release: Six-foot Chinese Zhi Lin Xia earned a unanimous decision win over Carlito Brosas on Saturday night to capture a regional welterweight title. Xia (8-2), became the first Chinese boxer to see action in Southeast Asia, but he earned the admiration of Filipinos at the jam-packed Mandaluyong Sports Complex. Brosas (14-10-1), struggled to land punches when Xia wisely used his three-inch reach advantage by landing most of his combinations. The 28-year old Filipino was also penalized twice for hitting below the belt. Although all three judges were from the Philippines compare, the scores were 118-110, 116-111 and 115-111 for the Chinese Xia. On the undercard this show, promoted by Gabriel “Bebot” Elorde Jr.'s, minimumweight contender Ernesto “Hard Rock” Rubillar (35-28-7) quit at 2:39 of round six to lose by technical knockout when he suffered an injury in his elbow from the straight punches of Jun de Asis (6-4, 3 KOs), a late substitute.
