Erika Cruz W10 Mayerlin Rivas... After ten rounds of boxing in Southern California over the weekend, Mexico's Erika Cruz defeated Venezuela's Mayerlin Rivas by majority decision to win the WBA super bantamweight championship. According to the WBA, it was an explosive show for the audience inside the YouTube Theater. Rivas employed all the technical skills she has developed over the years, and applied precision and power punches. However, Cruz exerted tireless pressure thatincluded excessive headbutting, especially in the middle and late rounds of the 122-pound fight. The scorecards read 95-95, 98-92 and 97-93, making Cruz a two-division champion-- she moved down from 126 pounds where she held the WBA featherweight title until February when she lost it in a unification fight vs. world champion Amanda Serrano in New York. Cruz is now 17-2, while Rivas' record stands at 17-5-3.
