Ennis stops Avanesyan to retain welterweight title

Jaron Ennis TKO5 David Avanesyan... Jaron "Boots" Ennis won his Philadelphia homecoming bout, defeating tough-as-nails David Avanesyan in an exciting but mostly one-sided welterweight contest. With the win, Ennis improved to 32-0 and retained his IBF championship. Avanesyan is now 30-5-1 and suffered a fate similar to his failed challenge of then-world welterweight champion Terence Crawford in 2022. In round one, Avanesyan received a low blow from Ennis while the champion's head was being held down. Avanesyan took quite a while to recover. The pause in the bout only slightly delayed the inevitable. By round four, Ennis was teeing off on Avanesyan, and blood was leaking from the challenger's nose. Avanesyan had some good moments in round five, but Ennis responded with a knockdown. Avanesyan got up and finished the round but his corner stopped the bout before round six could begin.
