"You’re not going to see me just pressure Tarver, you are going to see some of my rough and tough tactics, my impressive speed, and my boxing skills."
BoxingTalk: Elvir, how did preparation go for your fight against Tarver?
Elvir Muriqi: The preparation went really good. I never had a better training camp.
BoxingTalk:Â What made this camp the best ever?
Elvir Muriqi: The hard work I put in, and the team I had around me. Also, I didn’t have to travel to get to camp. I was able to get up at 6 in the morning to go running. I had good sparring partners, and a lot of fun working hard work.
BoxingTalk: You are facing the guy who pretty much ended Roy Jones Jr.’s dominance in the light heavyweight division. How do you see the best way to defeat Tarver?
Elvir Muriqi: Let me put it this way, even though he beat Roy Jones, that doesn’t mean I can’t beat him. That’s how boxing goes. Styles make fights, and I’m way more hungry then Tarver is, and I’ve been getting better as a fighter.
BoxingTalk: When Glen Johnson defeated Tarver, he did so by applying the pressure throughout the entire fight. Is that something we can see from you on Saturday night.
Elvir Muriqi: You’re not going to see me just pressure Tarver, you are going to see some of my rough and tough tactics, my impressive speed, and my boxing skills.
BoxingTalk:Â What do you feel is your biggest advantage that you possess to defeat Tarver?
Elvir Muriqi: I’m younger, and I’m hungrier.
BoxingTalk:Â Do you believe Tarver will come into the ring in better condition than when he faced Bernard Hopkins?
Elvir Muriqi: I’m expecting him to come in great shape. He’s coming to prove that he’s the best in light heavyweight division.
BoxingTalk: Tarver was able to knock out the very elusive Roy Jones with a hard left. Does his power concern you at all?
Elvir Muriqi: Not at all. I spar with heavyweights all the time. I don’t have a problem with big power. When I’m on, I’m on, and I’m going to be on Saturday night. Besides, what use is good power if they can’t touch you with it.
BoxingTalk:Â What can we expect to see from you once the bell rings Saturday night?
Elvir Muriqi: You will see me applying pressure little by little for a couple rounds to feel Tarver out in the fight. Then, I’ll be winning the rounds by a wider margin as the fight goes on.
