When Elvin Ayala arrived in Los Angeles there weren't many people that gave the kid a chance against Sergio Mora. Ayala had a little something to say about that, and after 10 rounds of back and forth action, he walked out of the ring with a draw. After the announcement was read that the fight was a draw, Mora stormed out of the ring, and that action left Ayala feeling very disrespected.  Team Ayala wants a rematch, and they want it as soon as possible.
BT – You got a draw against Sergio Mora, talk about your performance.
EA – I thought I did enough to get the win, but I thought it was going to be worse considering that I was in his hometown. They booed me on the way in, and cheered me on the way out. At least they gave me a draw, but with the reaction of the crowd it was pretty clear that most thought that I wont the fight.
BT – Were you surprised that you were able to get to Sergio Mora as easily as you did?
EA – Well I wasn't surprised about my performance. I lost a lot weight in a short notice, but I was so positive about the fight that I just wanted to make it happen.
BT – With the draw, your stock has come up a little bit. Are you wanting a rematch with Mora?
EA – At the press conference we told him that we wanted a rematch. One of his team members told us that they would give us our rematch, it just depended on what The Contender people said. I think a rematch would be good, he was talking about how he wasn't hurt, and it wasn't his style. If you watch the interview that he gave before the fight he was talking about how good of shape that he was in, and how mentally prepared he was, and how strong he was. I think a rematch would be good, and to make it interesting, lets fight for his contender title.
BT – Why would Sergio Mora want to give you a rematch? What would be the gain for him?
EA – Well I don't think he wants to, but people don't respect that. He was talking that he was 100 percent sure that he was going to beat me, and he didn't. How can you go on and fight for world titles, and he can't even get by me. I am allegedly a nobody, I am the underdog. If he says he can beat me, prove it.
BT – I have seen a lot of Sergio's fights, and it seemed that you were much more successful getting to him than others. Why do you feel you were so effective against him?
EA – I have seen his fights, and one thing that I noticed is that he always fights in movements. He likes to jump in with his hooks, and he likes to counter. I figured I would just keep him on the outside, and then just come in a little bit, and throw, boom boom boom boom. He also likes to switch right in front of his opponents face, so I jabbed, and caught him off balance. He hit me with a few low blows too.
BT – What would you do differently if you did get a rematch?
EA – Well I will do what I am doing now, keep training. I didn't get hurt at all, I took a few days off, but I am back in the gym right now. I am staying in shape in case I do get a call.
BT – What are some other names that you would like to fight?
EA – John Duddy, I think a fight against him would be good.
BT – When do you want to get back in the ring?
EA – I am ready, I want to get back in there right now. The Mora fight was like a rough sparring session. He said that I head butted him, but it wasn't a head butt it was a clean right hand that I hit him with. He hit me low a few times, but I kept my cool, I was in his backyard.
BT – Did you have a chance to speak with Teddy Atlas after the fight?
EA – No, but I heard what he was saying about me. He was speaking negatively about me during the fight, but as the fight went on he had to change his opinion about me, he had no choice. It's all good though, as long as I did my job, and the world got to see it too. The fight was a classic in it's own right because it was the first fight live on ESPN Classic. I prayed hard for this fight, I prayed hard. I am just waiting on calls right now, but I am definitely wanting a rematch with Sergio Mora. Mora was talking about how he just wanted to delete this fight, and I am like, delete this? It is what it is, you can't delete this. Also, Sergio just walked out of the ring after the decision was read and showed me no respect.Â
BT – I asked Sergio about that, and he told me that he wasn't mad at the decision, he was mad at his performance.
EA – I walked up to him, and he kind of kept walking and showed me a cold shoulder. I am not going to stoop down to that, to each is own. When I took my losses, I took it like a man.Â
BT – Do you have any closing thoughts for the fans?
EA – Well I want to say that I am happy for a lot of things. God bless everybody, and peace.
