Eckhard Dagge passes away

Boxingtalk sends its condolences to the friends and family of Eckhard Dagge, the former WBC light middleweight champion who passed away last week.  Dagge held the title from 1976 to 1977. He fought as a professional from 1973 through 1981, ending his career with a record of 25 wins (15 by KO), 1 draw and 5 losses. In January 1976, he went fifteen rounds with the great Vito Antuofermo but came up short on the scorecards. He won his world title five months later by defeating Elisha Obed by technical knockout in ten rounds. Later on, he defended the title against Emile Griffith, Maurice Hope (the latter by draw). He lost the title in his third defense to Rocco Mattioli on August 6, 1977. "I greatly admired and held in esteem Dagge, who won the championship during the first stage of my presidency, and with his outstanding career brought boxing back to Germany," said WBC president Jose Sulaiman. on sale by calling 312-226-5800.
