Omar Chavez will face unbeaten Olympian Misael Rodriguez in a ten-round super middleweight main event this Saturday, Jan. 25th at Arena Potosi in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. This all-Mexican clash was initially slated for October 2024, but it was canceled on fight night due to weight issues. Chavez, son of boxing legend Julio Cesar Chavez, aims to settle unfinished business with Rodriguez, who captured a 2016 Olympic bronze medal. Chavez-Rodriguez and undercard bouts will stream live and exclusively in the U.S. on ESPN+ starting at 8:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. PT.
Chavez (41-8-1, 28 KOs) has reeled off three stoppages since a June 2022 loss to Rafael Amarillas Ortiz, including a second-round knockout of Michi Muñoz last May. Rodriguez (14-0, 7 KOs) hasn’t fought in the U.S. since September 2019, when he vanquished Brandon Maddox in the third round. Since then, he’s won four times in Mexico and now looks to overcome a 19-month layoff. In his last outing, he prevailed via eight-round unanimous decision over Ricardo Bañuelos Cernas in his home state of Chihuahua.
In other streaming action from Mexico:
Luis Fernando Rodriguez (15-1, 14 KOs) vs. Jose Angel Amaro (11-0-1, 3 KOs), 10 Rounds, junior featherweights;
