Press Release: Duva Boxing had three victorious boxers on Friday’s ESPN2 broadcast from Scranton, Pennsylvania. In the main event, Darnell “Ding-a-Ling Man” Wilson (21-5-3, 18 KOs) served notice to the world that he is a threat to the 200-lb world champions by scoring a crushing third-round stoppage of former IBF titlist Kelvin Davis. “With his impressive performance, Darnell left little doubt in anyone’s mind that he is a legitimate top contender,” said Duva. “What he did to Kelvin Davis, he could do to any other cruiserweight in the world and promotional partner Sal Musumeci and I are dedicated to getting him a title fight as soon as possible.” The victory was Wilson’s third consecutive stoppage of a rated contender. He took out Daniel Judah in four rounds last September and crushed Dale Brown in two rounds in January. In another televised bout, 21-year-old heavyweight Mike Marrone (17-0, 13 KOs) dominated trialhorse Jermell Barnes by unanimous decision over six. “Mike showed how much he’s developed by staying in control against a guy with a lot of experience against good competition.” And on the undercard, Pernell Whitaker-trained Raymond Biggs Jr. (5-0, 5 KOs) kept his perfect record with a first-round stoppage of Colorado’s David Marquez. Duva says he hopes Friday’s event was the start of a good thing. “(Co-promoters) Chris Coyne and Maury Mehne of Northeast Boxing did a great job, and I’m looking forward to working with them again in the near future. We put on a great show for Scranton and they responded by filling up the CYC Center with fans. Overall, it was a great night for boxing and we’re happy to have been part of it.”
