Don "The Bomb" George is ticked off

Undefeated super middleweight Donovan “Da Bomb” George, returns to the squared circle on Saturday, August 4th. “Da Bomb” will be featured off-tv on the Erik Morales-David Diaz Top Rank pay-per-view show where he will seek to improve on his record of 14-0 (12 KO’s). George will take on fellow Windy City native Shay Mobley. This Chi-Town rumble is scheduled for ten rounds and will emanate from the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. Recently this bout has taken a different turn than merely being a battle for hometown bragging rights. Mobley, throughout his seven-year career has been regarded as nothing more than an “opponent”. The 30 year old owns a 16-8 pro record and has been belittling George. Mobley has questioned George’s skills and also the caliber of George’s opposition. In fact he even mocked George’s moniker by calling him the “Cherry Bomb.” Mobley’s comments have not fallen on deaf ears.

“To me the guy is a joke, he must be a comedian. Who is he to talk about me? I’ve seen him fight, I’ve seen him win and I’ve seen him lose. One of my sparring partners David Estrada from Chicago knocked him out. I’m not impressed by him at all. We used to see each other time to time at the fights and in gyms and we’ve said hello in the past. I can’t say I know him, but I do know of him. The one thing that I’m certain on is that he has a suspect chin and I’m going to exploit it,” said George.

According to George, his opponent’s trash talk has not necessarily provided extra motivation for him. George says that he’s always prepared to bring his “A” game into every fight and therefore trains hard no matter whom he is fighting. The 22 year old says he knows no other way than to train hard and that Mobley’s mouth albeit annoying and disrespectful has not provided any further incentive.

“The way I look at it, he’s been telling reporters and people that I have not fought anyone and that’s fine. Come Saturday, we’ll see what he’s all about. We come from opposite sides of the world. We’re both from Chicago , but he’s a black guy from the south side, and I’m a white guy from the suburbs, so I guess I’m not supposed to know how to fight. He probably resents the shit out of me, for that reason alone. I know I’ve had things easier than him growing up, but all that means nothing in the ring. Once you’re in there with your opponent, you’re on an even playing field and either you can fight or you can’t.” George.

The Top Rank, promoted pugilist is thrilled to not only be fighting in front of family and friends, but to also be a part of such a mega event. He is well aware that his name is not the biggest on the marquee but he predicts that come Saturday night, he’s coming to steal the show.

“I’m really pumped up about Saturday, this guy is a stepping stone for me and I’m ready to walk over him. He’s makes me laugh, saying that he’s training hard for me. Wow big deal, that’s a headline? Shay Mobley training hard for a fight, come to think about it, it is big news. In Chicago, no one has ever heard that before. In every gym around here, people know who he is and how lazy he is. What he wants a medal for being in shape? Isn’t that his job? We’ve had three months to prepare for this fight, so there should be no excuses when I knock him out,” George.

“His chances of beating me are like hitting the lotto and being struck by lightning all on the same day.” George.

George will be making his third appearance of 2007. “Da Bomb” was last in action in June. On that night he annihilated Corey Phelps of Kentucky, in one round. For “Da Bomb” it was his 7th straight win via knockout, and he has also stopped 8 of his last 9 opponents. Despite this knockout barrage, George says that he never goes in there looking to just take his man out, and against Mobley he won’t change his game plan. George plans on being the aggressor and most certainly expects to dictate the fight from the on set. “I’m going to bring the fight to him and just take to him early. I’m going to check his chin, bust him up to the body and see if he really wants to be in there with me, or if he is just all talk.”

“I cant wait to see him at the weigh in, when he sees me take my shirt off, looking like Super Man, in the back of his mind he’s gonna say oh shit what did I get myself into? I’m so ampt up for this fight, you have no idea. I grew up about 3 miles from the arena; I’m going to have my family and friends there, If they let me I’d fight two guys on Saturday,” George.

Cestus Management’s chief adviser, Mike Michael feels his fighter is on the cusp of being a world title challenger. However he is fully aware that with any young prospect, proper protocol must be practiced. “I don’t know what Shay Mobley was thinking? All he has managed to do is to further motivate a killing machine in Donovan George. Shay (Mobley) is nothing but a minor obstacle which Donovan George will plow through with ease on August 4. Mobley is a dead man walking,” Michael.

”I’ve been blessed to have a great support team around me, great parents a father who has sacrificed everything for his family. A man like Mike (Michael) in my corner, guiding me. I’m also one of the fortunate people who enjoy their job. I love boxing and I love to fight,” George.

The never bashful Michael says that George is being groomed to not only be a world champion, but to be one of the greatest fighters of his generation. Michael has made the claim that “Da Bomb” is the best fighter to come out of Chicago, in the last 20 years. If all goes according to plan for his protégé, he hopes to have him challenge for a North American title, by Christmas time, this year.
