Domingo fails in PABA title bout

ANOTHER Filipino has fallen short in an attempt to bring home a boxing title from Thailand.

With no Filipino official assigned, Michael Domingo knew his only way to win was via a knockout.

He fought aggressively and exchanged furious punches only to vow against unbeaten World Boxing Association (WBA) top ranked bantamweight contender Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym (19-0, 14 KOs) in their Pan Asian Boxing Association (PABA) bantamweight title bout Tuesday at Central Stadium in Nakornpanom.

The official scorecards saw Krathingdaenggym comfortably ahead to retain his title via unanimous decision over 12 rounds.

Judge Wanchai Pongsri of Thailand saw it 112-117, Switzerland’s Franz Marti had it 111-120 while PABA director general Alan Kim of South Korea scored 111-118 all for the champ. The third man on the ring was another Thai, Chalerm Prayadsab.

It was the 15th title defense of the Thai fighter after winning the crown by defeating another Filipino, Lee Escobido in October 2001.

The defeat dipped Domingo’s record to 20-13-3 win-loss-draw.
