Dina Thorslund wins world bantamweight championship

Dina Thourslund W10 Cherneka Johnson ... In Orlando, Florida, Dina Thourslund shut out Cherneka Johnson over ten rounds to become the undisputed world bantamweight champion. It was a tremendous accomplishment for the Danish Thorslund, who was scheduled to fight Johnson in July 2025, but withdrew due to pregnancy that would end in a tragic miscarriage. She returned to the ring in January, scoring a decision win over Almudena Alvarez to become interim WBC featherweight champion. Johnson (19-3) was the undisputed female bantamweight champion from July 2025 to August 2026 and previously held the IBF super bantamweight title.

Thorslund, also a former super bantamweight champion, brought the pressure from the first bell and simply outworked the champion for ten straight rounds, stringing together combinations while Johnson fought in single and double shots. A flush right hand in the fourth and another that snapped Johnson’s head back in the fifth marked the turn, and by the ninth Johnson was bloodied and still being beaten to the punch. All three judges scored it 100-90. Thorslund moves to 25-0 and completes the run she was set to make a year ago before pregnancy forced her out of the original fight with Johnson.
