Oquendo still hasn't gotten paid for Holyfield fight!
As you should know Evander Holyfield won a unanimous decision over Fres Oquendo on November 10, 2006 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. What you probably didn't know until now was that several checks Murad Muhammad handed out, including Fres Oquendo's purse and Lou DiBella's fee, bounced like a Spalding on the hardwood. Moments ago DiBella confirmed the bad checks to Boxingtalk and informed us that if his fee as well as Oquendo's purse, which he will pay out of his own pocket tomorrow, are not wired to his account by the close of business on Tuesday, lawsuits against Murad Muhammad's M&M Sports, Evander Holyfield's Real Deal Promotions and Fox will be filed first thing on Wednesday morning. "The fight happened over two weeks ago and we've given Murad every chance to make the situation right and we still haven't gotten paid," stated DiBella. Holyfield's purse for the Oquendo fight is alleged to be $2M, $250,000 of which was paid in advance. Boxingtalk has been unable to confirm if the $1.75M check Holyfield received on fight night was worth the paper it was printed on, unlike those received by DiBella, Oquendo and presumably others on the undercard. Much more to follow. (6:41 PM EST)
