Say they have no obligation to face Freitas
Boxingtalk.com received the following statement from Scott Woodworth, Director of Boxing Operations At Sycuan Ringside Promotions. "I have read news reports in which promoter Art Pelullo says that our world champion Julio "The Kidd" Diaz has a contractual obligation to Acelino Freitas. This is completely false. It is 1000% wrong and inaccurate. The facts are these: Pelullo sent a contract to us for a ten round non-title bout for Diaz to fight on the same show with Freitas in Brazil, but Julio Diaz never accepted that bout, never signed any contract and Diaz has no obligation of any kind to Freitas and/or Pelullo. Later Pelullo tendered an offer for Diaz to fight Freitas in May, contingent, of course, on Julio Diaz retaining his IBF title against Levander Johnson. We never accepted that offer or signed any contract because we knew that the mid-day date belonged to the big fight between Felix Trinidad and Winky Wright. There has been much speculation about what Julio Diaz's boxing plans are, but that's all it is at this time, speculation."
