Diaz, Holt headline at Turning Stone

PRESS RELEASE: Fisticuffs Promotions, in conjunction with Duva Boxing, proudly announces a blockbuster February 24, ESPN2-televised night of professional boxing at the Turning Stone Casino and Resort in Verona, New York, headlined by two of their world-class super lightweights and supported by one the world’s top up-and-coming young heavyweights.

In the co-main events, El Paso’s always exciting Oscar “El Torito” Diaz, 23-1 (11 KOs), will take on New York’s twice-beaten Russell Jordan, 12-2 (8 KOs), while fast-handed New Jersey native Kendall “Rated R” Holt, 20-1 (12 KOs) will face New York’s Felix St Kitts, 12-6-2 (7 KOs).

The relentless punching Diaz has moved himself into contention in boxing’s most talent-rich division by consistently winning heart-stopping battles on national television. Thrilling wars with Jessie Feliciano (W 10 on ESPN2) and Al Gonzalez (W 10 on SHOWTIME) cemented the 23 year old as an all-action fan favorite and serious contender for a world title.

Holt’s SHOWTIME-televised victory over then-undefeated David Diaz and his subsequent WBO Inter-Continental Light Welterweight Title-winning effort vs. Jaime Rangel have moved him to the front of the line among potential world title challengers. With an unmatched blend of speed and power, Holt is lock to one day capture a world championship belt.

“Although we’re not looking past these fights, both Diaz and Holt are hoping to secure world title fights some time this year,” said Duva Boxing’s Dino Duva. “Another fight we’d be interested in making would be for Kendall Holt to take on Paul Malignaggi on Sho Box or an opening bout on HBO. That would be a tremendous matchup between two promising young fighters.”

Also, in a very special preliminary attraction 20-year-old undefeated heavyweight prodigy Michael Marrone, 12-0 (10 KOs), will make his television debut against Portsmouth, Virginia’s David Chappell, 7-5 (3 KOs).

Co-managed by legendary Lou Duva and Gus Gurren, Vero Beach, Florida’s Marrone has literally spent his life in a boxing gym, learning from the world champions who trained there. Despite his tender age, the former accomplished amateur has gone on a tear through his early competition, with only one foe seeing the final bell.
