DiBella speaks on Taylor loss, Pavlik rematch and more

GL: Can you give me some thoughts on the Taylor-Pavlik fight? "It was a classic fight. Jermain had Kelly really, really badly hurt in the second round and he should have finished him, but he wasn't able to. Kelly showed great courage in the second round, I thought Jermain was clearly ahead going into the last round, but it was a competitive fight and Kelly landed a terrific combination and that was that. It was a great middleweight fight, there hasn't been a middleweight title fight that good in many years and I think when it happens again it's going to be a big, big event for boxing."

GL: You say when it happens again, I just got off the phone with Bob Arum and he tells me that it might not happen next, that both guys might take a fight or two before fighting again. What can you tell us?

Lou DiBella: "I have to talk with HBO, I have to talk to Jermain and Al Haymon. I think it's premature to say anything right now, but when a fight is that great there's a pretty good bet that it happens again."

GL: Can you give us some thoughts on Berto's performance?

LD: "Berto was sensational. First of all it was a sensational boxing card from the first fight off TV until the last bout. That's the way we need to present ourselves in the future. It was a great card. I thought Berto's performance was explosive. Estrada showed guts and he never stopped coming. It was a terrific fight. I think it was a learning experience for Berto, but also a coming out party. He moved from prospect to big time contender."

GL: How many fights before a title fight? One fight? Two fights?

LD: "It depends on what fight presents itself, but he's not too far off."

GL: When you meet with HBO this week, will Paulie's name come up? When can we expect him back in the ring?

LD: "Paulie's name is going to come up in every conservation I have with every network."

GL: Is there anything you'd like to say in closing?

LD: "The wheels have already started turning and there will be talks and discussions this week and there will be a decision made in the coming days on what the fans should expect. It was a great fight and a great event and I think it was a sensational night of boxing."
