PRESS RELEASE: DiBella Entertainment's popular Broadway Boxing series will makes its Turning Stone Resort and Casino Event Center debut when the title and site sponsor hosts the Broadway Boxing "Friday Night Face Off" on Friday night, October 21st. The outstanding fight card will feature a pair of 10-round welterweight contests - Joshua Clottey vs. Marlon Thomas in the main event and Chris Smith vs. Tomas Barrientes in the co-feature.
Clottey (27-1, 20 KO's), fighting out of the Bronx, New York, is a product of Accra, Ghana, which has produced the likes of boxing greats Azumah Nelson and Ike Quartey. Thomas (32-5-1, 21 KO's), a Detroit, Michigan veteran, will provide a stiff challenge for the once-beaten Clottey, a top contender in the welterweight ranks.
The Smith-Barrientes tilt is for the NABA Interim Welterweight Championship. Smith (19-2-1, 12 KO's), fighting out of Queens, New York, is another of the many New York City-based boxers fighting under the DBE banner. Barrientes (27-8, 17 KO's), fighting out of Mercedes, Texas, will make the fight a highly-competitive match up as Smith attempts to recapture the NABA Welterweight Title.
The undercard is stocked with Upstate New York pugilists, which is sure to delight the fans in attendance at Turning Stone.
In an eight round bout, Rochester's Russell Jordan (10-2, 6 KO's) squares off against Buffalo's Henry Humphrey (7-4, 6 KO's) in a battle for Upstate New York welterweight supremacy. Utica's highly regarded welterweight Jamar Patterson (3-0, 2 KO's) takes on Terrance Thomas (4-4-1) of Newburg, New York, in a four rounder. Two more four rounders complete the card: Rochester's Kenny Abril (3-2-1, 3 KO's) will face Shane Culver (1-1) of Philadelphia in yet another welterweight tilt, while Vincent Arroyo (1-0, 2 KO) of Amherst, New York will take on Shane Gierke of Youngstown, Ohio in a four round junior welterweight bout.
