David Defiagbon will be traveling to Germany to face Juan Carlos Gomez in a match-up of two heavyweights looking to rebound from their first loss. According to Defiagbon's co-manager Mike Borao, the bout is scheduled for eight rounds and will take place on January 15, 2005 in Magdeburg. Gomez (rated #39 by Boxingtalk) is a former world champion at cruiserweight last seen getting stopped in one round by Yamplier Azcuy. Defiagbon, coming off a decision loss to Oleg Maskaev last July, says he is not worried about facing the Cuban-born Gomez in his adopted homebase. "There's nothing to be afraid of. I fought in Germany a lot during my amateur career, so its no problem." Defiagbon's promoter Joe DeGuardia shares' Defiagbon's confidence. "It's a tough fight, but I like David's chances," said DeGuardia. "I am putting him in with Gomez because I think he will prevail." Both boxers have excellent pro records: Gomez is 37-1 and Defiagbon is 21-1. Remember where you heard it first! (7:45 PM ET)
