EDITED PRESS RELEASE: Joe DeGuardia, president of Star Boxing, publicly congratulated two boxers under contract to him, world light heavyweight champion Antonio “Magic Man” Tarver and heavyweight Vinny Maddalone, for their victories at the FedEx Forum in Memphis last Saturday night. Tarver, 23-3, regained the IBO belt and the true 175-pound championship with an exciting unanimous decision over former champion Glen Johnson. With the win, Tarver, once again established himself among the top boxers in the world. On the undercard, Maddalone, 24-2, scored a fourth-round TKO 4 over Dennis McKinney. "Antonio Tarver was in another fantastic war with Glen Johnson and he showed tremendous heart to go with his incredible ability,” said DeGuardia. “I’m proud of Antonio for the dedication and toughness he showed in defeating Johnson. ” As for Maddalone, DeGuardia says he’s happy to see the partnership between Maddalone and new trainer Al Certo paying off. “Vinny has demonstrated his total commitment to becoming a top heavyweight and he’s very happy to be working with Al. He’s becoming extremely disciplined and focused in the ring and it was very apparent on Saturday, as was his tremendous conditioning.”
