DeGuardia congratulates Wiggins!

Joe DeGuardia, president of Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing, sends his congratulations to his heavyweight, Robert Wiggins, for his impressive TKO 4 victory over Courage Tshabalala on July 1. The fight, at the Plymouth Memorial Hall in Plymouth, MA, and televised nationally on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights, saw a surging Wiggins make Tshabalala quit on his stool after four rounds to avoid suffering a sustained beating.

“Robert showed his grit and toughness and I’m glad he's rededicating himself the way he has,” said DeGuardia. “When he’s on top of his game, Robert Wiggins is a force to be reckoned with for any heavyweight in the world and that’s what he showed again tonight.”

DeGuardia, who also handles light heavyweight champion Antonio Tarver, says that if Wiggins, 20-4-1 (12), continues to maintain his new-found level of focus, it won’t be long before he puts him in a high-profile fight with a top contender.

“Robert is at an age (36) where his experience and toughness can put him into high-profile fights that can shape his boxing career and he knows that. It showed in his conditioning for this fight, in his intensity and in the way he weathered the early storm from Tshabalala to come on as the rounds progressed. Wiggins always makes for great TV fights. If he can keep this dedication and focus going, I expect to put him in the kind of fight that could finally propel him to the level he belongs at in the heavyweight division.”
