De La Hoya taking the year off, maintains that if he fights again it will be Floyd Mayweather Jr!

Moments ago, on an international teleconference,  Oscar De La Hoya told over 120 members of the assembled media that he will not be fighting again in 2006. "I just think it's too soon to fight in September, I felt too much pressure to fight in September. I'm still training everyday and I'm taking care of myself. But I don't think I'll be fighting this year. I've been known to take a year off in between fights and obviously I can do it again. The ideal date would obviously be May of next year, which I will be thinking about.  If I decide to have fight again it will be my final fight and it will be Floyd Mayweather Jr. That's the only name out there that satisfies me and can get  me motivated to train for three months." Of course Boxingtalkers have been aware of this information since Team Mayweather first informed us of Oscar's intentions two days ago. There will be more to follow so stay tuned.Â
