GL: When did this happen?

ODLH: "Two minutes ago, and who do I call first?"

GL: Boxingtalk, that's good. Now that the fight is a done deal give us your thoughts on it.

ODLH: "We don't announce anything until it's a done deal and a signed deal and it makes me extremely happy. My conditioning coach is already on his way over here, and I'm starting my pre-camp as we speak."

GL: So the fight will take place on May 5 and Mayweather will not be fighting in the interim, correct?

ODLH: "Exactly."

GL: Will the fight take place at 154 for your WBC championship?

ODLH: "Well, it'll be taking place on May 5 at 154 pounds. It'll be a twelve round fight."

GL: It will be a twelve round fight...for the WBC title?

ODLH: "Well, that's something I still have to decide on."

GL: Have you had a chance to discuss with Mayweather Sr if he's going to be training you for this fight or not?

ODLH: "No, I'm actually going to discuss this with him when I go to Vegas for the Manny Pacquiao fight."

GL: After telling me last week that you don't think Mayweather gets it the way Hopkins and Mosley did, does it surprise you that this deal got done so quickly?

ODLH: "It doesn't surprise me. With Mayweather being recognized as the pound for pound fighter, the pound for pound fighter should be ready to fight anybody, anytime, anywhere. With the fighter I am, always willing to face everybody, always willing to fight the best with no exceptions."

GL: Tell us what you see in Mayweather that leads you to believe that you're going to be able to solve that puzzle?

ODLH: "Well, I've known that style that he has for several years now with Mayweather Sr training me. I feel in my heart that I have the key to unlock it. I know that I have speed to match him, I know I have power, intelligence and determination. People who are placing me as the underdog, I love being the underdog."

GL: You've been fighting at 154 for years, Mayweather will be making his junior middleweight debut in this fight. How much does that play into your hands?

ODLH: "Not much, because I'm not even going to be coming in at 154. Obviously I've been able to carry my weight at 154, but I'm still a natural welterweight, so I don't know if it'll be much of a difference."

GL: This is very big news. And will the fight take place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas?

ODLH: "It'll either be in Las Vegas or Los Angeles, we're still in negotiations."

GL: This is very exciting Mr. De La Hoya.

ODLH: "A lot of people thought I was just blowing smoke not wanting this fight. Now it's a dream come true and we're going to put all of our heads together to make sure this is the biggest event in boxing history."

GL: In the past critics have said that you tend to fight guys when they come off a loss and you see that they've gotten hands put on them by someone else. Are you hoping that fighting guys like Hopkins and Mayweather when they are clearly on top of their game and every pound for pound list, eliminates that criticism? And do you think it should?

ODLH: "Obviously criticism will always be there. All I can do is keep fighting the best and trying to beat them. Throughout my whole career I've looked to fight the best and now I have an opportunity to fight the very best, so I'm thrilled and excited, I'm jumping for joy. I can't wait to really put on a spectacular show. Like I said I'm already training.

GL: What kind of training?

ODLH: "I've started all my weight training and fast twitch muscle movements to make sure the speed is back. I know the power is there."

GL:  Is your best chance of defeating Mayweather via KO?

ODLH: "Not necessarily, but that's obviously what a fighter shoots for. Me, the fighter that I am if I see the opportunity for a knockout I'm going to go for it."

GL: You dominated Mayorga from ding till dong in your last fight, but Mayorga is as fundamentally flawed as they come. Mayweather on the other hand is technically proficient. With the Mayorga fight being the only rounds you've put in over the last few years, are you concerned that the speed might be too much after not having been in there with such a technical fighter for a hot minute?

ODLH: "Not at all. At the same time Mayweather has to get in there with somebody like me."

GL: That's what I want to hear, please explain. In what ways?

ODLH: "The speed, the power combined with the big fight intelligence in the big arena, the big fight experience, umm, umm, ummm!

GL: Will May 5 be your last fight?

ODLH: "I don't plan on making it my last fight, I'm in the zone and I feel like I'm 25 again."

GL: Wow. Does that mean that retirement is not even on the horizon?

ODLH: "I can't even see it."

GL: As Don King would say the word retirement has been eradicated from your vocabulary?

ODLH: "You could say that. Now it's up to me and HBO and all of the sponsors that we're bringing to the table to make this event, bigger and bigger."

GL: Since this is not your last fight, is there a rematch clause in the Mayweather contract?

ODLH: "No, but if it's a great fight we could do it again."

GL: Who will promote this fight?

ODLH: "Golden Boy Promotions."

GL: In association with nobody?

ODLH: "In association with Boxingtalk.com."

GL: I like the sound of that.

ODLH: "It's Golden Boy Promotions."

GL: Will you be sparring with Mosley in preparation for this fight?

ODLH: "I plan on bringing in the fastest guys out there. And I didn't even think of that, but if Mosley is able to help me out, I would love for him to help."

GL: Is there anything you'd like to say in closing?

ODLH: "To all of the fans out there listening to and reading Boxingtalk, this will be the fight of my life and I'm looking forward to putting on a specatacular show. I'm going to give it everything I have. To everyone who didn't think it would happen, you better be the first to buy a ticket."
