Kosei Tanaka W12 Christian Bacasegua Rangel ... Today was a dominant day for Japanese boxers, as the local heroes won three world title bouts on the same show to increase the Land of the Rising Sun's domination over the sport's lower weight classes. World 122-pound champion Naoya Inoue is perhaps the most dominant boxer in the world but hiis younger brother Takuma began to emerge from Naoya's shadow by stoping Jerwin Ancajas to retain the WBA 118-pound title in Tokyo. Junto Nakatani moved up from 115 to 118 and became a three-division champion by knocking out Alexandro Santiago. The Japanese dominance also saw Kosei Tanaka become a four-division champion by defeating Mexico's Christian Bacasegua Rangel for the vacant WBO 115-pound title. (The title became vacant when Nakatani moved up three pounds). Tanaka won a wide unanimous decision by scores of 116-111, 117-110 and 119-108. Tanaka accepted world championship number four with quiet pride. Tanaka's career mar is now 20-1 with the only loss coming against another reigning Japanese champion, Kazuto Ioka, holder of WBA 115-pound laurels. Now 22-5-2, Rangel wasn't the most qualified of challengers, but he hadn't lost since 2019 and three of his pre-existing defeats were very close decisions.
