Darnell Wilson to meet Kelvin Davis in Scranton

Rare meaningful match-up in the cruiserweight division

Press Release: On February 23, 2007, Darnell “Ding-A-Ling Man” Wilson and Kelvin “Koncrete” Davis will meet in what should be a cruiserweight slugfest.  The “don’t blink” thriller will be promoted by Duva Boxing in association with Northeast Boxing in Scranton, Pennsylvania. “They’ve already sold over 2000 tickets and we’re expecting a sellout,” says excited promoter Dino Duva. “It’s a thrill to be helping bring world-class boxing back to a great fight town like Scranton.” The event will be Duva’s first co-promotion with Chris Coyne and Maury Mehne of Northeast Boxing. “They’re doing a great job, and I’m excited about working with them.”  After a disappointing four-fight slide in 2005/2006, the hammering fists of Wilson (20-5-3, 17 KOs) have him on a two-fight knockout streak over Daniel Judah (TKO4) and Dale Brown (TKO2). Another  victory would put him among the world’s top contenders. Former IBF champion Davis (24-4-2, 17 KOs) has also righted the ship after a rocky 2005, winning three straight and putting himself in contention for a try at a second world title. A victory over Wilson would be just the ticket he needs to start his return to the top of the division. Duva Boxing prospects scheduled for the supporting bouts include undefeated heavyweight sensation Mike Marrone (16-0, 13 KOs); Pernell Whitaker-trained future welterweight champion Raymond Biggs Jr., (4-0, 4 KOs); and newly signed welterweight power puncher Enrique Gutierrez (10-1, 8 KOs). Tickets are available by calling Northeast Boxing at (570) 840-5703. The ESPN2 Friday Night Fights broadcast of the event will begin at 9 pm EST.
