Danny Williams defeats Audley Harrison

Decks Audley in tenth en route to split decision

In London, 2000 Olympic Gold Medalist Audley Harrison received his first loss as a pro against Danny Williams, losing a split decision.  Harrison was very cautious through the first ten rounds, but Williams seemed to be looking for one big punch throughout the fight and he never really landed anything to brag about... until round ten when he put Harrison down with a sweeping right hand.  Harrison rebounded to have his best rounds in the championship rounds and he even rocked Williams in the eleventh. Despite his cautiousness,  Harrison seemed to land more punches, albeit of the pitty-pat variety. Williams threw flurries that didn't really landing cleanly.  Harrison was warned several times for holding but never had a point deducted.  The final scores were 116-113 and 116-112 for Williams and 114-113 for Harrison.  Williams will probably look to a lock down a fight against British heavyweight champion Matt Skelton next, something that he backed out of before.  Williams, now 34-4 with 28 KOs including one over Mike Tyson, has rejuvenated his career while Harrison falls to 19-1 14 KOs and must wonder if he waited too late in his career to make a move up. The Boxingtalk ratings were right on target for this fight, putting Williams at #19 and Harrison at #22 coming in. source: PPV broadcast
