Daniel Ponce De Leon: A Man and His Explosive Knockout Power

"Now when people measure me, they will know I have power."

BoxingTalk:  Daniel, Congratulations on your big win last Saturday.  Describe for your fans how you set up that amazing knockout punch.

Daniel Ponce De Leon:  I went in very focused and determined to throw heavy-handed shots in the first round.  I didn’t expect the quick knockout though.

BoxingTalk:  You obviously prepared for the fight to go longer than 52 seconds.  Were you surprised that the fight went as short as it did?

Daniel Ponce De Leon:  Yes, I never thought it would ever go like that.  I thought it would go at least four rounds.

BoxingTalk:  You faced Sod Looknongyangtoy last year, and that fight went the distance.  What made this fight with Sod different from last time?

Daniel Ponce De Leon:  This time I studied him really good, and I learned a lot from the first fight.

BoxingTalk:  Sod was out for some time after you knocked him out.  Were you concerned at all about his health and well-being?

Daniel Ponce De Leon:  Yes, I was very concerned.  I started celebrating then I got nervous when he didn’t get up.  I’m glad he was okay afterwards.

BoxingTalk:  Since you hardly got any time in the ring on Saturday, are you looking to get back in action as soon as possible?

Daniel Ponce De Leon:  Yes, definitely, and as soon as possible.  I’d like to fight in September on the undercard of Barrera-Juarez.

BoxingTalk:  What statement do you believe you made on Saturday night?

Daniel Ponce De Leon:   A lot of people were iffy about the way I fought before, but they knew I had great power.  Now when people measure me, they will know I have power.

BoxingTalk:  Israel Vazquez and Jhonny Gonzalez are facing each other in September for Vazquez’ WBC 122-pound title.  Would you be ready to face the winner in the closing months of 2006?

Daniel Ponce De Leon:  Yes.  Definitely.  I would like to get one more fight in, and then face the winner of Vazquez and Gonzalez fight.

BoxingTalk:  Would you consider a rematch with Celestino Caballero to redeem you only loss as your next fight?

Daniel Ponce De Leon:  A rematch with Caballero is not something I’m thinking of.  He beat me clean that night, and I’m not thinking about another fight with him.  However, if HBO and Golden Boy Promotions are interested, then I’ll consider it.

BoxingTalk:  I know you gained a lot of fans from your fight on Saturday.  What would you like to say to them in closing?

Daniel Ponce De Leon:  I want to thank BoxingTalk, and all the people who supported me in this fight.
