Dalakian retains WBA flyweight title in competitive fight

Artem Dalakian W12 David Jimenez... It's rare for a world title fight to open a multi-fight broadcast, but that's exactly what happened on Queensberry's show in London on Saturday. The WBA flyweight championship remained with Artem Dalakian of the Ukraine, who defeated David Jimenez of Costa Rica by competitive unanimous decision. The 35 year-old Dalakian landed the cleaner punches while Jimenez came forward for the majority of the  fight.  Official scores were 115-113 (twice) and 116-112. BT Sport commentator Richie Woodhall, a former title holder in the late 1990s, scored it 117-113 for Dalakian (he scored two rounds even). Dalakian has held the WBA title since early 2018, so he'll be able to celebrate five years as a champion next month.  Jimenez was bidding to become the first male boxing champion from Costa Rica. He failed, but given his inexperience coming into this challenge, his stock rose in defeat.
