On November 25th, Steve “USS” Cunningham (19-0, 10 KO’s) will finally get his long awaited crack to win the IBF Cruiserweight championship. Cunningham, number-one ranked by the IBF, has been avoided like the plague by O’Neil Bell and Guillermo Jones and now will travel to Warsaw, Poland to take on number-three ranked Krzysztof Wlodarczyk for the title.
Cunningham, who has been training vigorously in Philadelphia, will begin his final preparations as he will culminate his training camp beginning on Monday October 16th when he returns to the training facility run by his trainer Richie Giachetti in Lodi, Ohio.
“This is just to finish off the work from the other two training camps. We have basically been preparing for basically the last 9 months” said Cunningham.
“I am excited to finally be able show my talents and skills and be world champion. It’s been a tough road but my time is now.”
Cunningham knows that he is for a tough battle when he meets Wlodarczyk, “I am not looking past Krzysztof, he is a good fighter, he has a very impressive record (36-1, 27 KO’s) but I must beat him to start off my career. Not that the first nineteen fights didn’t mean anything, but this is just the beginning of a long title reign. Then hopefully I get the chance to unify to the Cruiserweight division.”
Cunningham has had success traveling and winning in the home country of an opponent as he did when he went to South Africa to defeat the highly ranked Sebastian Rothmann.
“I want to enjoy Poland while I am there but this is a business trip and I plan to win and bring back this title to United States and carry on the tradition of great champions from Philadelphia.
