Cruiserweight upset in Rhode Island

Herrera stops Williams

RESULTS FROM TWIN RIVER
(Lincoln, RI)

On ESPN2's Friday Night Fights, cruiserweight Aaron Williams did not live up to his press clippings, as he was stopped by unheralded Jose Luis Herrera of Colombia.  Every one of Herrera's previous wins came without going to the scorecards, and on Friday in Rhode Island Herrera  (16-4, 16 KOs) stayed true to form by handing Aaron Williams (17-1-1, 12 KOs) his first pro loss in the fifth round. Williams had a good amateur career and a recent win over Andre Purlette, so this loss is a surprise. In the main event, U.S. Olympian Jason Estrada moved foward with a seventh-round stoppage on untested Moultrie Witherspoon. Vargas improves to 13-1 with 3 KOs while Witherspoon (not to be confused with the more legitimate prospect Chazz Witherspoon) drops to 14-2 with 8 KOs. source: press release
